Common Threads: Anabaptist and African American Songs and Stories of Suffering and Hope

Hesston College and the Oregon Mennonite Historical Society present Common Threads: Anabaptist and African American Songs and Stories of Suffering and Hope at Zion Mennonite Church, 6124 S Whiskey Hill Rd, Hubbard, Ore., at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 19.
Common Threads is an exploration of the way Anabaptist religious persecution and African American racial suffering have intersected. Both groups suffered at the hands of legitimate governments and both found hope in the midst of pain and humiliation. Hesston College faculty members Tony Brown (professional baritone and artist in residence) and John Sharp (storyteller and author) will give voice to Anabaptist martyrs and African American slaves by singing their hymns and telling their stories. Common Threads was presented in 15 congregations and seven school settings across the Mennonite church this past year. A free-will offering will be taken and a reception will follow.

Personally, I hope to gain and learn more on how to embrace God's grace and love amongst various issues and communities. As well, to continue to enhance my skills cross-culturally and appreciate Jesus’ ministry and life even more.  Lastly, I hope to learn from various individuals’ faith and social challenges.

Please continue to pray for my travels of this year and for God to continue to provide economically. Blessings    Dana Moran
