Healthy Boundaries in Ministry
All PNMC pastors should plan to attend a workshop on “Healthy Boundaries in Ministry” on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at Zion Mennonite Church, Hubbard, OR. Other church leaders are all welcome to attend.
Topics:
1) Ethical issues relevant to keeping you sane and keeping your congregation safe including: sexual ethics; boundary maintenance; power dynamics and differentials; mental health in the congregation; and dilemmas and resources in pastoral care/counseling.
2) Information on mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect for church leaders, including recognizing signs of abuse and resources on how, when, and to whom to make a report, and on the development of safety policies and practices.
Presenter: Melissa Hofstetter, PhD, MDiv Melissa is a licensed clinical psychologist in California (PSY25696), and has served as a district elder within the Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference. Dr. Hofstetter has private therapy practice in Pasadena, California. Among her therapy specialties is helping adult survivors of abuse and neglect to thrive in their personal lives and relationships. She has served as adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University’s department of graduate psychology, and has supervised clinical work of psychology doctoral students at Fuller Theological Seminary. New Testament study and devotional reading, especially in its original language, give her tremendous joy.
Cost: $30 for PNMC pastors; $50 for others
The cost for PNMC pastors is being subsidized by the Pastoral Leadership Team of PNMC. The Pastoral Leadership Team considers this training mandatory for those who hold credentials in PNMC. If you are unable to attend this training, you are expected attend a comparable training in another setting this year. If the cost is prohibitive please contact the PNMC office.
